1 Peter Intro

Living in lockdown can seem quite overwhelming. Life has changed drastically for everyone in such a short amount of time! For students, you are suddenly facing disappointment and loss of connections with friends, expectations of upcoming performances that you planned and practiced for, sports teams that can’t compete or practice, or proms and graduations that hold great uncertainty. For those of us out of high school or college, we are facing the loss of jobs, new home dynamics with spouses and/or kids and the uncertainty or disappearance of any “normal” routine.

In the midst of all of this uncertainty, I paused in the book of 1 Peter recently, and felt as though it was speaking directly to my heart and my circumstances over the past few weeks! Don’t get me wrong… I know my current “suffering” is not the same as being exiled from my home and being persecuted for my beliefs, but being “exiled” to our homes and the loss of relationships, routine, and employment is still scary and painful. So I was more than thankful for the incredible reminders from Peter of our living hope — the reminder that because of Jesus, no matter what we are going through on this earth, we have a future home in heaven with our God.

It’s my hope that our time together in 1 Peter over this next month is both challenging and encouraging. Challenging to each of our souls to live according to the call to be Holy even in the midst of this coronavirus chaos, but encouraging to our hearts as we find rest in God’s Word and the steadfast promise that God gives us grace upon grace even in the messiness of our days and hope for an eternity with Him.

I want this study in 1 Peter to be something unique that you may have never seen before! Most of our study will be virtual, happening via Instagram posts and stories (follow along with us at @bespokegrace). I want to challenge you and provide you with resources to dig into God’s Word on your own, but also in a way that you can connect with friends and study together, keeping each other accountable to dig deep and apply the truth of the gospel to your life in new ways! There will be a few other blog posts and perhaps some other fun resources in the future. As we work through this study together, I want to know what resources and tools you are enjoying or if you have other ideas that would make a virtual Bible study even more engaging and encouraging!
